Karbonn has told the Times of India that it plans to launch its first Android/ Windows Phone dual-boot smartphone in June this year. This will also be India’s first such device. Microsoft has reportedly relaxed the licensing agreements for Windows Phone, thus making such devices possible.
“Microsoft has eased the regulations and is opening up its platform for other players. We signed the agreement two days ago and will launch a range of Windows phones in about three months. The dual-OS phones will be out by June, and will target office-going professionals and ‘techies’, Karbonn Mobiles Chairman Sudhir Hasija said.
There are no details available about these smartphone(s) at this moment but we hope to hear more in the coming weeks.
Manufacturing unit in India
Hasija also revealed that Karbonn plans to set up a mobile phone manufacturing unit in India. The company currently imports all of its products from manufacturing hubs like Taiwan and Korea and hopes that local manufacturing will help with faster turnaround of new launches in the market.Karbonn Kochadaiiyaan Signature Phone Series
In related news, Karbonn has announced the launch of Karbonn Kochadaiiyaan Signature Phone series, which comes with exclusive Kochadaiiyaan movie content including songs, dialogues, videos, images, screen-savers and an augmented reality app.The series includes Android smartphones like Karboonn A36, Karbonn A6+ and Titanium S5i.
